General Gynaecology
I deal with a wide range of gynaecological problems including:
- Heavy periods
To successfully manage heavy periods or other menstrual disorders, the most important thing is to find out what causes it. It will then determine which treatment - tablets, hormones, mirena coil or surgery is most appropriate. I have conducted a number of research in endometrial resection, a very simple operation which obviates the need for hysterectomy in many cases (click here for my publications on endometrial resection)
- Fibroids
Fibroids may cause a number of problems including heavy and painful periods, infertility and miscarriage. Surgery is not always necessary, but if it is, minimal access approach should be adopted whenever possible. Surgery to remove fibroids should be performed with proper techniques to improve the result (click here for my publications on fibroids)
- Ovarian cysts
Most ovarian cysts nowadays can be removed via the laparoscopic (key-hole) route (click here for my publications on ovarian cysts)
- Hormonal therapy
Hormone problems are very common in gynaecological practice. Hormone replacement therapy in some women may produce significant benefits and improvement in quality of life. I have written a booklet on hormone replacement therapy (HRT), a copy of which will be available to you upon request (click here for my publications on HRT)
- Prolapse
I also perform surgery for various types of genital prolapse, including the use of prolene mesh to support the vagina in recurrent prolapse of the vaginal vault
