Endometriosis & Pelvic Pain
Endometriosis produces a number of problems including infertility and pelvic pain. Diagnosis is often based on laparoscopy (camera inspection of the abdominal cavity). In most cases the endometriosis lesions can be removed at the time of laparoscopy. In severe cases involving the bowel, the operation should be jointly carried out by a gynaecologist and a colorectal surgeon (click here for my publications on endometriosis).
Adhesions are another common condition resulting in chronic pelvic pain which can be very distressing. I have considerable experience in the treatment of chronic pelvic pain and the prevention of adhesion formation and reformation. I believe that the most important factor in the successful treatment of these conditions is the use of proper surgical (microsurgical) techniques (click here for my publications on chronic pelvic pain and adhesions).
The use of an omental graft following gynaecological surgery such as myomectomy may reduce adhesions formation.
